We provide medical help to Agent Orange victims, and also make it possible for them to have surgeries, if they need one and if it will help their condition.
Hoang Anh Sang
Sang in 2005
Sang was born with a severe cleft palate. His parents left him at Thien Phuoc orphanage, and he grew up there. We helped fund his initial cleft palate surgery in 2011 through Operation Smile.
A remarkably smart boy for his age, Sang showed a strong penchant for learning. In 2012, we connected him to a home-stay family near the orphanage, so he could start attending school regularly. However, his cleft palate was so serious that it still affected even after the first surgery, and made it difficult for him to participate in school activities. He was unsure whether he would be able to have the surgery again since he was quite young. Through a medical checkup with OpenDoctors, we discovered Sang would need to wait until his teeth were fully developed to have his second surgery. OpenDoctors also filled some of his teeth cavities and stitched up a burn wound he had sustained recently.
